Many people think that clippings will smother existing grass. That is a common misconception. Actually, the best thing to do with grass clippings is to leave them on the grass! Grass clippings actually help the grass stay healthy as they decompose and add vital nutrients back into the soil like nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium - ingredients found in most fertilizers. It also helps retain soil moisture and prevent water runoff and can help insulate the ground during times of drought.

Always water early in the morning for best results and most efficient use of water. Afternoon watering usually results in high evaporation, and watering too close to sundown can leave grass susceptible to disease and mold. Rule of thumb is to allow your yard a total of one inch of water per week through a combination of rain and hand watering.
